Room Edit Edition · Whole Room · Split-Room
The problem
A spare room or second living room is the only place in the house big enough for a long project — a quilt, a model, a painting, a family archive, a jigsaw bigger than the dining table — and the only place a guest or a reader can be put. So the room lives in one of two failures: the project sprawls onto every surface, including the one good chair, and the room is useless for anything else for weeks; or the project is packed into boxes at the end of every session and the next session starts with twenty minutes of unpacking, a lost place and, eventually, no next session at all.
What changes after you use it
Give the project a place and the room a seat, and never let one borrow from the other. Mark one parking place on the floor, clear of the door, heater and window. Hold the project there on a surface that keeps its working state intact. Label the trays by order of work. End every session by writing the next physical move on a card, putting the card on top and dropping a cover — not by packing. Keep one house seat with its own side table and its own lamp, always ready. Light the project at the project and the seat at the seat. Time two things: how long a restart takes, and how long the house reset takes, aiming for about ten minutes. It replaces the choice between 'the project owns the room' and 'the project goes in boxes' with a third state — held — and makes that state cheap to enter and cheap to leave. Restart time falls because the place is kept and the next move is written down; the guest reset shortens because the seat was never given up; and the project survives long gaps because nothing about stopping destroys the working state.
Who it is for
a spare room, box room or second living room that hosts one long project and occasional readers or guests; projects that can sit safely mid-state between sessions: quilting and sewing layouts, jigsaw puzzles, model-making at hand-tool scale, water-based painting or drawing left to dry per the medium's instructions, family archives and photograph sorting, scrapbooks, knitting and weaving on a loom that can stand; makers whose sessions are separated by days or weeks; rooms with a wall run clear of the door, heater and window long enough for the project's footprint.
Who does not need it
Anyone the free Study already solved; projects with fumes, solvents, spraying, resin, soldering, heat tools, kilns or wet processes on the floor — these need a workshop or a site-specific ventilation and fire answer, not a spare room; rooms that must be a full bedroom several nights a week; households with toddlers, or animals, that can reach everything and a room that cannot be closed to them; a project whose working state cannot be held on any surface the room can spare; rooms where the only wall run is in front of the heater, across the window or inside the door swing.

What it cannot do
It gives no universal clearance numbers and makes no structural, electrical, fire, egress, accessibility or code determination; those belong to site-specific authority. Every photograph is a concept visual of an authored room, not a measured site.
